Ohhh boy… what did I just do? After all the thinking and hemming and hawing, and “maybe I shouldn’t”, “maybe I should” flip flopping, I’ve finally gone and done it: I registered for my first sprint triathlon!
That’s right, just 2 days after my birthday this summer (in about 6 weeks!), I’m swimming 300 yards, biking 11 miles, and running 3 miles to officially earn the title of “triathlete” in the Jersey Girl Triathlon!
They say you should do one thing every day that scares you, and this is like, a year’s worth of scary for me. I mean, I know I’m capable of doing this – even if I have to crawl across that finish line I’m still going to finish – but it’s still completely and entirely new to me. But if I never try, I’ll never know exactly what I’m capable of, right?
So now it’s your turn – have any of you ever done this event before? Or a sprint tri of your own? I’m looking for all the advice I can get here, share the love!
ha haaaa! fantastic! go get em!!!

lol thanks so much! I’m excited to see where the training takes me! Hitting the pool tonight to work on fueling and biking for a few miles after just to see how I feel.. we’ll see how that goes!

Okay! The swim-thing is 0.17045 miles so it’s less than 2/10ths of a mile. That would be something like a block or less — so think of that as a refreshing dip between biking and running. Of course, the question begs to be answered. Do you know how to swim?
Good for you, Jess. Go for it!

Haha yes, I do (barely) know how to swim! I’m going tonight to talk to the kids at the Y to see if there’s a refresher course though, because it’s my weakest point for sure, but other than that, I think I’ve got it in the bag! 🙂 xoxo

Woohoo! I’m interested in the idea of a triathlon, but the training is what gets me. That and the fact that biking gear is even more expensive than running gear…

Uggh I know, it’s so expensive! The good thing about this one is that I already have a bike and most of the rest of the gear I’ll need, it’s just jumping in with both feet (literally!) that scares me. But there’s no better what to see what it’s all about than by going for it, right? 🙂

Oh boy! There’s a sprint tri that I’ve had my eye on the past couple of years but I just haven’t gotten there with the bike yet. That’s awesome though – I can’t wait to hear all about it. 🙂

Thanks so much! Yeah, the swim is what scares me the most, just because I’m still kind of weak in that area. But that’s what the training is there for, and what the classes at the Y will hopefully help me gain confidence in!

thanks so much! I’m nervous and excited and all different emotions, lol – but my swim last night gave me a little confidence! I just need to find goggles that don’t leak though 😛
