Hi Jess – WAY TO GO! What a fantastic article. I can really relate to your story, specifically about how running is a way for you to mentally/emotionally hash things out in your head. LOVE THAT about running. BEST OF LUCK this weekend!!! I’m really excited to see your post on your race and read how you get long. I just found your blog minutes ago but am super glad I did. You’ve got yourself a new, faithful follower, girl! π

Thank you SO much! Isn’t it funny that even though we’re all different, we have similar motivations to lace up and run? π I’m so glad you found me, thanks for the follow!!

Hi Jess!
Looks like I have just found my running/fitness twin! My name is Jess as well and I took up running about two years ago to get in shape and manage my own depression. I recently began a fitness wordpress blog as well! (fitnfierce) Still trying to get it off the ground really. I am new to this and couldn’t really find a away to message you more privately, but was hoping to connect and talk about some of my current struggles. For example, when I use running to manage my depression…what happens when I have a really terrible run? Plus, I was curious if you still struggle with your relationship with food. For me, even though running as helped me get into the best shape of my life (some even say I am too skinny…ugh- fit people!) I still feel really guilty when I splurge or eat poorly, even though I want to enjoy going out with my friends and lead a normal, healthy fit life.Just wondering if you have dealt with any similar issues and how you deal with them. I am really excited about having found your blog. I am sure it will be an inspiration to me π

Hi Jess!! Thank you so much for your comment – I’m thrilled to connect with you here! You mention so many things that I’m familiar with – the bad run struggle, food issues, the guilt – it’s all totally normal! For me, it was all about going easy on myself and learning how to balance the healthy lifestyle with a full, rich, deprivation-free life.
